Document Description
The Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge was established to preserve, restore, and enhance riparian habitat for threatened and endangered apecies, breeding and wintering migratory birds, anadromous fish, resident species, and native plants. The refuge is managed to maintain, enhance and restore habitats for these species. Riparian forest are being restored by converting flood prone agricultural lands along the Sacramento River in cooperation with the Nature Conservancy, River Partners, and local farmers. The restored lands are highly susceptible to fires in the summer and pose a threat to adjacent homes. Thsi project will employ the California Conservation Corps (CCC) to complete hazardous fuels reduction projects near Wildland Urban Interface areas of the Refuge.
