- Document Description
- UC Davis will demonstrate an alternative UV treatment system that will eliminate the problems with traditional UV systems. Traditional UV treatment use modules with arrays of UV Mercury lamps placed in wastewater flowing through a channel. The modules require heavy lift equipment, and the UV bulbs transmissivity declines due to fouling from direct contact with the wastewater. The proposed alternative technology consists of creating a strong vortex inside a vertical tube, where the water will swirl upward around a core of air. The UV lamps (Mercury or Xenon) are outside the tube, eliminating fouling problems.
