Sunnyvale East and West Channel Flood Protection Project

The Project proposes to provide flood protection and water quality improvements. The Project design also complies with the District's freeboard standards. Freeboard is the additional vertical height of infrastructure built above a predicted flood elevation to provide capacity for additional but unexpected flood elevations. Freeboard is essentially a safety measure taken to reduce the risk from flood events that are larger than those expected for the Project Site. The Districts freeboard standards consider a range of freeboard guidelines developed by federal agencies, including FEMA, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, among others.
