Document Description
This project will perform minor excavation beneath and lateral to a mammoth or mastodon tusk after it is removed. Removal of the tusk using standard field palentology methods should not disturb local sediments significantly. However, due to the importance of the site, the opportunity to explore the undisturbed sediments nearest the tusk will be undertaken. Because the tusk sits less than 1 meter below the top of a low ridge on flat lying (horizontal) sediments, proposed exploration of the site will include the removal of 3 to 4 cubic meters of unconsolidated fine sediments.
