Document Description
This project will perform excavation of a partial pelvis, partial femur, and possible tooth plus other skeletal elements of a proboscidean. The specimen will be excavated in detail. The excavation will require uncovering all bones associated with the bone layer to discover the outer limits of the skeletal remains prior to removing any of them from the site, mapping the physical position and orientation of all of the bones in place, stabilization with glue and consolidant, and preparation of the bones for removal using burlap and plaster of parts for protective field jackets to remove and transport each element safely to the District Stout Reseach Center laboratory. All sand matrix surrounding the bones will be sifted through screens to recover bone fragments and possiblly fossils of other vertebrates.
