Document Description
Releases of sediment in upstream non-project facilities have impacted operations since the Facility became operational in 1989. Sand has been entering the intake and canal system and settling in the canal and forebay resulting in an operational capacity reduction from 1600 cubic feet per second (cfs) design to about 800 cfs. Approximately 70,000 cubic yards (CY) of sand and sediment has built up behind the project diversion dam. These materials have deleteriously restricted flow and caused recurrent repair costs and damage to turbine blades, shaft seals, generator coolers, trash rakes, and coatings. Maintenance dredging (the Project) is necessary to remove the sands and sediment that have accumulated from other hydroelectric projects discharges upstream of the Facility.
