Document Description
Using only state funds, Caltrans will repair damage culverts and remove trees burned during the Salt Creek Fire on I-5 approx. 14.5 mi. north of the City of Redding in Shasta County. Burned shrubs and 300-400 trees will be cut, chipped and spread on-site, to provide ground cover. Most of the trees are Ponderosa Pine, but Black Oak and Douglas Fir, will also be removed. The trees range in size from 2 to 28 inches diameter at breast height. Areas close to the highway will be mulched and seeded. Four culverts, that were burned will be replaced at the outlets for energy dissipation. This project will remove trees that could fall on the highway and replace damaged culverts.
