Document Description
The Sierra Stream Institue is requesting $112,932 in funding from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy's Proposition 84 Healthy Forests Grant Program for meadow restoration on no more than five acres. The proposed project includes removing non-native plants using hand pulling and mowing methods, pilings the vegetation for removal of burning, and replanting the area with teh native palette. If the vegetation piles are burned, the material will be burned in accordance with burn day regulations of the Northern Sierra Air Quality management District. Vegetation piles would be covered with tarps in order to kill the seds and avoid seed dispersal until the appropriate burn dates. The purpose of the project is to provide fuels management, remove invasive species, and to revegetate the area with native plants. The project would preserve mixed conifer forest health, restore native vegetation communities to the meadow area, reduce fire risk, improve water quality, increase carbon sequestration capacity, and increase habitat diversity.
