Document Description
The City is proposing to replace two existing 30,000-gallon redwood water tanks, known as Tank #8 and Tank #9, with a new welded steel 250,000-gallon tank. The tank is located within the Arcata Community Forest 150 feet east of the existing Tank #9 off Panorama Dr. on an approximate 0.15 acre site. The existing tanks which were installed decades ago are in the poor condition and tank #9 is leaking approximately 1,500-gallons per day. They are being replaced as part of the City's ongoing storage tank upgrade program. Failure of the existing tanks would render 150 households without domestic water or fire service protection. The City considers this replacement a high priority. The project capacity will increase to allow for off peak power pumping and to provide additional fire flow volume in case of emergencies.
