Document Description
The Project involves reconductoring (replacing existing wire) approximately 20,500 feet of the PG&E Arcata 1105 electric distribution line (1105 line) such that the 1105 line would have an increased capacity, from 415 amperes to 677 amperes. PG&E would then transfer 360 amperes from the Arcata 1106 electric distribution line (1106 line) to the 1105 line to alleviate the 1106 line, which is at risk of overloading due to ongoing growth in the Arcata/McKinleyville area. As part of the reconductoring, PG&E will replace approximately 125 distribution line poles (DLPs), and add DLPs where existing DLPs are spaced too far apart. Reconductoring activities consist of one or more of the following at each construction location: (1) existing DLP would be removed and replacement pole would be placed in situ or immediately adjacent; (2) existing DLP would be removed and replacement pole would be placed nearby; (3) DLP addition or removal; (4) existing anchor would be removed and a replacement anchor would be added in situ or immediately adjacent; or (5) anchor addition or removal. Utility trucks with attached 22-in diameter augers would be used to remove and add DLPs. New or replacement DLPs would be 1 ft in diameter; new or replacement anchors would have a diameter or 4 in. When removing or adding a DLP, the auger would be used to dig to a depth of approximately 7 ft. Anchor replacements and additions would be screwed directly into the ground (approximately 6 ft depth), with excavation of the surrounding area conducted as necessary to secure the anchor placement. Displaced soil would be temporarily stockpiled nearby during installation then returned to the augur-made hole.
