The Henderson Park Project proposes to restore habitat for juvenile and adult salmonids, provide open space and flood management, enhance interpretive facilities, provide improved recreation opportunities, and work with water users to improve fish passage and reduce channel maintenance needs, while improving habitat for native fish species, emphasizing fall-run Chinook salmon and steelhead. It aims to protect, improve, and restore river habitat, including benefits to fish, wildlife and water quality, and improve facilities to support and interpret Merced River restoration and other conservation activities. It includes several components and incorporates multiple strategies to meet primary goals of Merced County strategic planning and the USFWS AFRP including safe public river access, outdoor recreation and education, and salmonid habitat restoration.
