Document Description
The Nimitz Marine Facility (MarFac) is the home port to SIO-operated research vessel R/V Roger Revelle, R/V Melville, R/V New Horizons, R/V Robert G. Sproul and the research platform FLIP. Primary structures include a 307-foot wharf and a 365-foot finger pier that provide utility connections for vessels. Additional support facilities include maintenance shops, a marine radio station control room, scientific staging and storage areas, and administrative and technical suppor offices. The facility was built to accommodate up to five oceanographic vessels simultaneously, however, cannot home port all vessels at this time due to deterioration of some of the pier/wharf infrastructures.
