Document Description
Notice of Determination for Renewable Energy Anaerobic Digester (READ) Facility Ammonia Extraction System Addendum March 2019 to the Renewable Energy Anaerobic Digester (“READ Biodigester”) Project Negative Declaration (ND). The University owns and operates the Renewable Energy Anaerobic Digester (READ) facility. The digester is sited at the University’s decommissioned landfill on west campus. The READ facility converts approximately 50 tons of food waste per day into renewable biogas. The proposed project will install equipment to remove the ammonia from the digestate so that the digestate can be disposed of at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. In addition, the project will recover the extracted ammonia and create a certified-organic fertilizer product for sale into agriculture markets. The University has an agreement in place for the sale of the fertilizer to California Safe Soils, a Sacramento based company that produces and sells other organic fertilizers into regional agriculture markets.
