Document Description
The "Vulcan Water Conservation and Flood Control Project" is proposed to be developed as a water recharge and flood control facility on the site that was previously used for aggregate mining operations. The proposed project site is ~60 acres in size, and includes ~42 acres that are currently under the jurisdiction of the County of San Bernardino. The project proposes to annex that area into the City of Fontana and change the General Plan and Zoning land use designation to Open Space-Resource. The primary objective of the water conservation and flood control project is to develop a 2,190 acre foot flood control/recharge basin that is ~2,650 feet long, 980 feet wide and 100 feet deep. The project's physical improvements include grading the existing aggregate mining pit to form the recharge basin and constructing inlets into, and a spillway out of the basin, storm drain conveyance facilities into the recharge basin, as well as recycled water conveyance facilities. The amount of grading and site modification for the proposed retention basin is close to one million cubic yards of balanced cut and fill. The proposed Baseline Box Diversion and Revised Storm Drain involve ~3.4 miles of storm drain construction. The proposed recycled water lines involve ~1.3 miles of construction/installation.
