- Document Description
- The subject property is the future location of the Mount Shasta Forest Volunteer Fire Station located at the intersection of Wyntoon Way and Timberline Court in the Mount Shasta Forest subdivision just northeast of McCloud. The purpose of the project is to "fire safe" the 2.5 acre lot prior to breaking ground for the new volunteer fire station. This project will involve cutting and chipping vegetation by Deadwood Conservation Camp fire crews. Brush and sapling size trees will be cut at ground level and larger trees will be limbed to approximately 12 feet. No "healthy, mature, scenic trees" will be cut. Cut material will be chipped onsite and the resulting chip piles will be spread by hand. The subject parcel and surrounding area is forested with a mixed conifer stand dominated by ponderosa pine and white fir. Other species present in lesser amounts include incense cedar and black oak. Tree diameters range from saplings to approximately 36 inches. The topography of the parcel is generally flat on the eastern portion of the parcel where the fire station will be built. The western portion of the parcel has gentle slopes ranging from 5 to 15%.
