Document Description
The project is limited to the replacement of an existing bridge on Hilderbrand Drive (CR 125) crossing St. Helena Creek. The existing structure is an 80-foot long (by 13-feet wide) steel truss Baily Bridge with timber deck boards on steel floor beams set on concrete abutments. From the banks or the existing roadway, this bridge will be dismantled and removed during the construction of the new structure. All old relic bridge abutments and supports will be removed. The new bridge will be placed in approximately the same alignment but will extend to 100-feet long by 21-feet wide. It will be a single-span precast, prestressed, concrete girder bridge with reinforced concrete wall abutments. The excavation for the new abutments will be performed with an excavator or backhoe. Each of the abutments has wing walls. The majority of the excavated material from the original bridge deconstruction will be used as the fill for the new abutments. Abutment 1 may need to include 30-40 foot piles at the foundation.
