Document Description
The University previously issued an IS and proposed MND analyzing the environmental effects of the proposed Angelo Coast Range Reserve Replacement Housing project (SCH #2012062024), which was circulated for review from June 11-July 10, 2012. The University has revised the project description and will therefore not finalize the previously circulated IS and proposed MND. The campus proposes to construct 5 structures to provide housing for visiting researchers and students at the Angelo Reserve, located on the South Fork of the Eel River. The Reserve is one of 38 field stations owned and managed by the University of CA as part of its Natural Reserve System. The new buildings would be built in 2 phases: Phase I would consist of a 2-bedroom apartment (900 sf) and an 8-bed bunkhouse (400 sf); Phase II would consist of demolition of a 1950's Headquarters house (1320 sf) that is in poor condition that currently houses 6 beds, the construction of two 8-person bunkhouses (400 sf each) and a common kitchen/dining hall (1500 sf) with laundry and bath facilities that would serve up to 25 visiting researchers who use the Reserve on a temporary basis. Currently the Reserve has capacity to house 45 visitors. At the completion of the project, the Reserve would have the capacity to house up to 20 additional visitors in new buildings totaling 2300 sf net (after demolition of the HQ house).
