Document Description
The Yucaipa Ridge fuel break runs east/west along the Yucaipa Ridge. CAL FIRE is administering the portions of this fuel break on private property, while the United States Forest Service is administering those portions on national forest land. There are two areas included in the project; one owned by Southern California Edison (SCE) and the other by the Wildlands Consrvancy. The fuel break will consist of masticating, cutting, pruning, and chipping of trees and brush. The treatment on SCE will include mastication of slopes less than 40%, and thinning by hand cress on steeper slopes. All residual trees will be pruned up to 8 feet above ground level no more than half the trees height. The seond project area, owned by the Wildlands Conservancy, will be tinned by hand crews. Mastication will not occur on this section. Slash will be treated by chipper from existing road surfaces. Within the project areas, equipment exlusion zones (EEZ) for rare plants and sensitive infrastructure have been identified and flagged; inside of thwich only hand cres utilizing chainsaws will be permitted to operated. All slash within the EEZ shall be transported outside the EEZ and treated by chipper. Wood chips shall be "broadcast" back on-site. The project is approximately 44 acres.
