Document Description
The goals of the proposed project are three-fold: 1) to measurably reduce current sediment loading to the estuary's remaining open water and critical wetland hobitat; 2) to reduce long-term sediment loading rates in the watershed; and 3) to provide a replicable model for landowner traning. To achieve these goals, this phase of the project will fund the restoration of two actively eroding gully sites, each approximately 300 ft long, identified as high priority in an extensive 2007 erosion site survey. Restoration will consist primarily of bioengineering techniques. To achieve significant long-term sediment load reductions, the project will fund a series of workshops and small-scale demonstration projets to instruct agricultural landowners on how to identify, prevent, and treat erosion sites before they become significant sediment sources.
