Document Description
The project area is approximately 104 acres in size and located approximately 2 miles northwest of the community of Groveland in Tuolumne County. The project area is approximately 2,500 feet in elevation above sea level. Vegetation consists of annual grasses, with an overstory of oak. The setting is open and park like. The proposed project will consist of a series of small prescribed burns to provide live fire training. The small prescribed burns are also intended to reduce the amount of Medusahead grass (Taeniatherum caput-medusae) and shift species composition toward more desirable grasses and herbaceous species. Fire control lines will consist of existing roads, hand line constructed by CAL FIRE hand crews, and dozer line constructed by the landowner under direction of CAL FIRE. Live fire training courses are typically conducted in May and June. The late spring is the best time to burn in order to control Medusahead grass.
