Vacaville-Dixon Bike Route Phase 5

Solano County is in the process of constructing a network of Class II bicycle lanes between the cities of Davis, in Yolo County, and Vacaville. The final phase of the Route, Phase 5, consists of constructing Class II bicycle lanes along approximately 4.6 miles of Hawkins Road from the Vacaville city limit to Pitt School Road. The road work includes widening the pavement and both shoulders a total of 7-8 feet in order to construct the bike lanes. No new right-of-way will be required for this project. Proposed are the following improvements: 1) Approximately 4.5 miles of shoulder fills, typically 4 feet wide and 0.5-2 feet deep, will be necessary to accommodate bike lane widening; 2) Approximately 3 miles of the roadside ditches will be slightly relocated to accommodate bike lane widening; 3) Approximately 20 existing culverts, ranging from 12"-30" in diameter will need to be relocated and/or replaced. It is anticipated that 2 culverts will need to be installed in new locations to improve existing constrained drainage conditions. Culvert work is expected to reach depth of 4 feet; 4) Approximately 9 culverts will need to have extensions installed up to 8 feet long in order to accommodate the additional bike lane widths; 5) Relocation of approximately 12 utility poles along the north side of the road, at various locations within the right-of-way, will be necessary to make room for the new bike lanes. New utility pole holes are typically augured 8 feet in depth. The centerline of the road will not change for most of the Project. However, some areas will require up to a 2 foot offset to accommodate site constraints. No centerlines are planned to be moved closer to parcels with homes, thus, changes in traffic related noise will not be an issue.
