Document Description
Using only state funds the California Department of Transportation will create a shelf in the existing rock slope protection (RSP) at the north abutment of the Tomes Creek Bridge on Interstate 5 (I-5) in Tehama County. The shelf will allow vehicle access under the bridge from one side of the interstate to the other. The shelf will be 12 feet wide and approximately 8 feet from the bottom of the newly constructed bridge. Clean crushed rock, will be spread over the shelf to fill the spaces between the large RSP. An excavator, operating from the dry channel at the toe of the slope, will be used to move the rock.
