Document Description
The project is the approval of an interim Removal Action Workplan (RAW) for the mitigation of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in soil vapor. The project includes the construction and operation of a Sub Slab Depressurization System (SSDS) at the Columbia College of Hollywood (CCH) building which is located at 18618 Oxnard Street, Tarzana. The project is an interim measure designed to prevent VOC contaminated soil vapor from penetrating the walls of the CCH offices. The source of the contamination is located at the neighboring property of 18600 Oxnard Street, Tarzana, where Former Bodycote Thermal Processing Facility (Bodycote) and companies associated with Bodycote conducted metal heat treatment operations. The property is state to continue as a commercial / industrial facility. A land use covenant will be recorded to prohibit residential use or construction below utilities. The installation of the SSDS system at CCH will ensure the removal of VOCs in soil vapor and prevent it from penetrating the building thus protecting the students, staff and visitors and allowing for CCH to operate in an environmentally safe building. It is anticipated that this system will run until the implementation of a remediation system at the Bodycote building or 5 years, whichever is earlier.
