Oakland International Airport (OAK) comprises 2,600 acres and has four runways at North Field (Runways 9R-27L, 9L-27R, and 15-33) and one runway at South Field (Runway 11-29). The Oakland International Airport Runway Safety Area Improvement Project involves a combination of runway shifts and other improvements for the four Airport runways to comply with FAA standards, as required by December 31, 2015. The improvements include filling, grading and resurfacing portions of the RSA; relocating navigational aids in the sand area and on the existing trestle, relocating runway approach and landing thresholds, constructing a new taxiway, and establishing declared distances of 10,000 feet for both takeoffs and landings.
