The project applicant is BAE Systems. The project proposes: demolition of Piers 4 and 5; removal of five mooring dolphins; construction of new bulkhead sections; relocation of shoreline infrastructure; underwater dredging; construction of new replacement Pier 4, and; construction of new mooring dolphin. The purpose of the proposed project to replace the existing Pier 4, and remove the existing and deteriorating Pier 5 as well as the project elements noted above so that the existing BAE shipyard can service the future demands of commercial and Navy vessels. The project is consistent with existing land use designations and policies of the Port Master Plan for Planning District 4, Sub Area 43-Belt Street Industrial.
