Document Description
The project will improve in-stream habitat for migrating salmonids by installing log structures in Gilliam Creek, a major tributary to East Austin Cree and its tributaries are coho recovery Core Areas, where installing or enhancing large wood is a recovery action that increases stream complexity and improves pool frequency. The Project implementation will use a low impact approach of large wood debris recruitment in Gilliam Creek. This approach avoids all machinery and permanently anchored structures. The instream structures are provided by falling existing riparian trees and placing salvaged log and rootwads. Individuals site designs were developed by licensed Hydrologist/Geomorphologist following a field visit prior to submission of contract modification. The Project entails the placement or repositioning of 20-30 large wood debris structures, greater than 12 inches in diameter at 10 restoration sites with Gilliam Creek to enhance instream habitat for salmonids.
