Document Description
This project will involve the development of a staging area for inmate fire crews at Deadwood Conservation Camp. The entire project area is 6.5 acres. Four area within the forested eastern portion of the project area will be developed as camping sites for fire crews. Within each of these four areas an approximately 30x50 foot plot will be cleared of trees and leveled with a tractor. Additional trees may need to be removed at each campsite to accommodate parking for crew buses and utility vehicles. The area will retain a forested condition for shade and scenic quality. The maximum area to be cleared and graded is estimated to be 1/4 acre.

Field review by CAL FIRE staff confirmed that no exceptions apply which would preclude the use of a Notice of Exemption for this project. The Department has concluded that no significant environmental impact would occur to aesthetics, agriculture and forestland/timberland, air quality, land use planning, mineral resources noise, population and housing, public services, recreation, transportation/traffic, or to utilities and service system. Documentation of the environmental review completed by the Department is kept on file at CAL FIRE headquarters in Yreka.
