Document Description
The proposed Project consists of adding treatment processes to the Haybarn Canyon Drinking Water Iron/Manganese Removal Treatment Facility and constructing a pipeline for disposal of brine to be generated by the facility. A 16-inch internal-diameter (max.) brine disposal pipeline would extend ~10 miles from the Haybarn Facility to the ocean on the southern coast of the U.S. Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton. Brine would meet the requirements of the facility's pending NPDES permit and, after collecting in an underground concrete caisson below the beach flow from three screened diffusers, buried ten feet below the sea floor, into the Pacific Ocean, 200 to 250 feet from the caisson and at water depths of approximately 30 feet. The proposed Project is needed to ensure compliance with more stringent secondary drinking water standards.
