Document Description
The North Grain Field (NGF) units consists of an agricultural hay/grain production unit that was cut off from the south fork of the Pit River by a levee which borders the NGF to the west. Historically, the South Fork Pit River meandered through the NGF. During conversion, the historic floodplain and its braided river channels were filled in, and a new artificial channel was excavated, with excavated fill being used to construct an 8-9' levee on the NGF's west perimeter. The modification during conversion to farmland were undertaken decades ago prior to the FWS owning the property.
