Document Description
The project consists of the construction of Small Management Yards (SMY) adjacent to the Psychiatric Services Unit (PSU) at CA State Prison, Sacramento. The purpose of the project is to comply with the CA Code of Regulations, Title 15, Section 3343(h), which requires that inmates in special purpose housing units have access to out-of-cell exercise time. CDCR has determined that the construction of individual SMY is the safest to provide exercise to inmates, because it eliminates the need for armed supervision of group yards, and simultaneously eliminates the possibility of inmate-on-inmate violence.
The proposed project would consist of the construction of 11 SMY in a previously-developed area adjacent to the PSU. Each SMY is a square enclosure constructed of steel mesh on a concrete pad, and measures approximately 12' by 12', with a total area of approximately 150 s.f.
