Document Description
The project includes the acquisition of one to three parcels along the east bank of the Petaluma River within the lower Denman Reach. The proposed project will extend the existing terracing project upstream, northward, increase channel capacity by grading to lower the top-of-bank surface approximately 4 to 6 feet in a zone extending from approximately 75 to as much as 150 feet wide along the river. This project will continue to reconnect the river with its historic floodplain in this area. This will provide flood impact reduction, water quality improvements, and aquatic and terrestrial habitat benefits. Components of the flood terrace excavation will include creation and or restoration of riparian habitat buffer zones, seasonal wetlands, and shallow surface water filtering swales (biowales). In addition to floodplain restoration, the project will include public access.
