- The proposed project is a request to develop a new community park, Churchill Downs North Community Park, within the Southgate Recreation and Park District. The project encompasses 15.5 acres and may include the following park amenities: 20,000 s.f. community center, 10,000 s.f. District support facility, aquatic center, parking facilities, play areas, multi-use sports fields, BMX track, dog park, restrooms and other park features as shown on the Concept Plan for the entire site. The project will be constructed in phases as funding becomes available. The first phase will include the construction of a 11,500 s.f. community center, aquatic center (3,500 s.f. of offices and mechanic/storage building 6,500 s.f. competition pool, 5,300 s.f. recreation pool), 6,500 s.f. District support facility and associated parking facilities (328 spaces). Later phases will include the remaining park features and possible expansion of the community center and support facility.
