AMENDED PER LEAD
The City of Ukiah is proposing to adopt an ordinance regulating the distribution of single-use carryout bags at the point of sale. The ordinance would consist of revisions to the Ukiah City Code and would apply to all retail businesses. The ordinance would prohibit single-use carryout bags at the point of sale. Recycled-content paper carryout bags would be allowed, but stores would be required to charge an amount sufficient to recover the cost of the bag to the store, and not less than 10 cents per bag. Certain exceptions to the charge would be allowed. The ordinance would apply only to carryout bags (provided at point of purchase), and not bags used elsewhere in the store for particular grocery items such as fresh produce and meats.
