Document Description
The County of Kern in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) proposes to construct a 24-foot-wide asphalt concrete roadbed with 6-foot-wide paved shoulders and 2 feet of shoulder-backing along a 1.3 mile road segment. Improvements will include installation of box culverts at four channel locations and demolition of the original asphalt road upon completion of the new road. The project will be within approx. 200-feet of right-of-way with portions under the jurisdiction of BLM, Caltrans & the County. The centerline of the roadway is not located on the section line per county standards; therefore, it is the intent of this project to construct a new road approx. 100 feet north of its current location in order to provide congruence and continuity to existing paved sections of Bowman Road. Any existing utilities that would conflict with the project design will be relocated. This project will help provide an adequate east-west circulation to alleviate congestion on SR 178 and improve air quality in the Indian Wells Valley Air Basin and Mojave Desert sub region.
