Document Description
The project is part of a larger rehabilitation program on the trolley system to provide Low-Floor Light Rail Vehicle access on the Blue Line between Old Town and San Ysidro Transit Centers, and the Orange Line between 12th and Imperial Avenue Transit Center and Santee Town Center. The project proposes construction of new traction power substations to establish the power requirements for low-floor vehicle service. The use of low-floor vehicles would improve passenger loading, including wheelchairs, from the platform. Development of substation will require property acquisition. Subject properties are under current ownership by Union Pacific Railroad, City of San Diego, and private owners. The substations are metal enclosure of rectangular shape and neutral color that measure approximately 10 feet high, 15 feet wide, and 40 feet long. Construction would include site preparation, minor trenching and excavation, concrete foundation, extending new feeder cables to feeder poles or existing vaults, and resurfacing.
