Document Description
The proposed Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) Research Support Facilities project would consist of construction of interior and exterior research support space, including three prefabricated metal buildings totaling approximately 24,500 gross square-feet (GSF) on a 5.7 acre site. The three prefabricated buildings include Building A (9,800 GSF), Building B (8,500 GSF), and Building C (6,200 GSF). These buildings would replace a number of existing dilapidated storage structures within Seaweed Canyon and provide additional upgraded research support space for the SIO campus. Three of the existing on-site buildings (Seaweed Canyon Warehouse, Building T-45 and Building T-46) would remain in place and in some cases undergo an interior remodel. The outdoor paved areas would function as storage space for equipment and exterior work areas, allowing loading and unloading of research equipment and allowing access for trucks, firefighting apparatus, and tractors/trailers. Existing utilities within the footprint of the project site would be realigned to better serve the layout of the new buildings.
