Document Description
The County of Riverside Economic Development Agency (EDA) proposes to demolish the vacant County jail and construct a pedestrian plaza in its place. The structure occupies approximately 10,000 square feet on the southeast corner of Assessor Parcel Number (APN) 215-110-001.
The existing jail structure is approximately 30,000 square feet, and includes four-stories and a basement. The former jail facility is a health and safety hazard subject to water intrusion, structural cracking, and deteriorated electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. In addition, the facility contains asbestos and lead based paint (LBP).
The jail structure is not considered to be a historic resource; however it is immediately adjacent to the historic Riverside County Courthouse. The two building s are separate structures; however they are connected with utility conduits and walkways.
