Document Description
Replace all existing wood shingle roofing, which was installed in the 1980's, with new asphalt shingle material on the historic Ford House at Mendocino Headlands State Park. The new black asphalt composition shingles will be installed according to the manufacturer's specifications, will increase fire resistance of the building, and will retain an appearance similar to the old wood shingles. A 1/2" plywood diaphragm will be applied over the skip sheathing of the existing roof to provide a shear membrane and substrate for the new roof covering. Project will include limited, in-kind repair and/or replacement of existing wood gutters, fascia, and dormers. A brick chimney no longer in use will be repainted and its flashing replaced. All work will conform to the guidelines set forth in the "Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties" (Weeks and Grimmer). All work will be conducted between September 1 and April 15 to avoid potential impacts to bats.
