The project proposes to construct a new 0.65-mile long local street by extending Rainier Ave. from the existing intersection at N. McDowell Blvd. (east of HW 101) to a new signalized intersection at Petaluma Blvd. N. (west of HW 101) in the City of Petaluma, Sonoma County. Project improvements would include a new four lane roadway with raised center median, landscaping, Class II bicycle facilities and sidewalks. Rainier would pass beneath a new undercrossing structure of US HW 101, which would be accommodated as a part of the separate Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) US 101 Marin Sonoma Narrows High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Widening Segment C2 (MSN C2) Project, extend up and over the Petaluma River and SMART corridor via an elevated bridge, and return to grade to tie into a new signalized T-intersection at Petaluma Blvd. North.
