Document Description
Restore an historic automobile directional traffic island and other historic landscape features at Palomar Mountain State Park at the entrance into the Boucher Hill Lookout visitor parking area. Erosion and burrowing animals have undetermined the historic directional island, separating it from the nearby wall. The structure us in need of maintenance and repair, including but not limited to, removing a non historic stone masonry "tail"; salvaging stone from same to replace damaged or missing stone in the triangle's walls; repairing or replacing damaged and/or missing mortar (re-pointing); and restoring location and directional signs from the structure's post-1948-1951 historic period. The signs will be mounted on horizontal 2"x2" wood braces, and 4"x4" vertical wood posts set in packed gravel and native soil backfill [holes will be up to 12 inches in diameter and 2 feet below the ground surface level]. Prior to their installation, the triangle's interior will be cleared of a non-contributing upright wood post, vegetation and other debris.

No potential for significant impacts to the environment is anticipated in compliance with Section 15300.2. Project consists of maintenance, repair, stabilization, preservation, or conservation of historical resources in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing Historic buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer and is included as "Activities affecting historic resources consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties" under DPR's list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR Section 15300.4.
