Document Description
The proposed project is located along the East Branch of Soquel Creek within the boundaries of SDSF, managed by CAL FIRE. The project will reestablish and stabilize the Hihn's Mill Road prism, as well as enhance habitat for state and federally listed anatropous salmonid species. A series of rootwad revetments will be used to stabilize a 125 foot reach of eroded streambank adjacent to Hihn's Mill Road. The revetment units consists of a complex of large to very-large root wads and logs augmented with large rock or other approved ballast. Trees for the revetment units will be excavated with a 50 foot bole and rootwad from within SDSF and transported to a location near the construction site. Trees for the project will not be removed from the riparian zone. Approximately 225 feet of channel will be dewatered to allow construction to occur. Sandbag cofferdams will be used for dewatering and to provide access to the work area. Fish netting (block-net barriers) will be placed upstream and downstream of the project area and fish will be removed prior to construction operations. Detailed as-built drawings of the structural elements will be completed following construction and photo point(s) will be established. Photos of the structure will be taken before construction and immediately after construction, as well as on an annual basis.
