This project includes construction of a retaining wall to repair approximately 40 feet of failed road embankment approximately 40 feet above Zayante Creek, near the town of Felton, Santa Cruz County. The proposed retaining wall will consist of a 72.5 foot long by 35 foot tall tieback soldier pile wall with timber lagging. Metal beam guard railing (MBGR) will be placed along the top of the wall for vehicle protection. Approximately 93 feet of asphalt concrete in the outboard lane on the top of the wall for vehicle protection. Approximately 93 feet of asphalt concrete in the outboard lane on Zayante Road will be reconstructed and replaced. The roadside ditch will be lined with asphalt to reduce seepage under the roadway toward the proposed wall. Scour protection will be placed along the length of the wall. Approximately 150 linear feet of Zayante Creek will be diverted around the project site with a bypass/dewatering system. California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement Number 1600-2011-0065-R3 pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Santa Cruz County.
