City Wastewater Treatment Plant & on-site ag. fields used for effluent reclamation activities/Public-Quasi Public (PQ)/PQ.
Document Description
Consistent with the provision of the City's WWTP national Pollutant discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit and Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs), the City is proposing to initiate discharge of tertiary treated effluent from the WWTP to Skunk Creek/Laguna Creek during the period of May 1 through October 31, annually. The City already discharges treated effluent to Skunk Creek/ Laguna Creek during November 1 through April 31 every year, so this project would extend the discharge period year round. The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board approved year round discharge for the Galt WWTP when it renewed the NPDES Permit and WDRs in September 2010. The City has since installed the required treatment upgrades for tertiary level treatment and will continue to maximize summer irrigation of city-owned agricultural fields at the WWTP. As part of this program, the City would also discontinue its lease to irrigate approximately 160 acre of adjacent agricultural fields currently owned by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Sacramento (south of the WWTP) because that additional land would no longer be needed for seasonal reclamation.
