Document Description
The LEWA coastal dune restoration project proposes to remove invasive European beach grass from approximately 14 ha (34 ac) of foredunes on either side of the mouth of Lake Tolowa lagoon, using a combination of manual and mechanical techniques. The goal of the project is to restore natural ecological processes to benefit native plant and animal species by removing this non-native and invasive vegetation. Heavy equipment will scrape or excavate deep-rooted beach grass from foredunes adjacent to the open beach. Crews using hand-shovels in areas adjacent to wetlands and sensitive dune mat vegetation will remove beach grass manually.
