Document Description
Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District proposes to initiate the Community Defense Zone-Phase 2 project designed to reduce the heavy fuel loading of hazardous vegetation around selected residential parcels in the upper foothills in the western part of the Fire District above State Highway 192. The Fire District's CDZ-P2 project will focus efforts on an integrated and balanced approach to fuel modification, one that reduces highly combustible fuel loads and preserves native habitat. The preferred method will be to utilize a mosaic pattern of fuel reduction designed to remove 50 - 75% of combustible fuel between structures on larger land parcels and along rural canyon roadways. The project will also reduce fuels on an existing "fuel break" that was constructed in the 1970-80's and has been utilized in fire incident contingency planning during recent local fires.
