Document Description
The proposed project involves replacement of the existing undersized and deteriorated Bijou Creek culvert, the new culvert would convey runoff from the upper watershed directly to the lake and eliminate the mixing of these flows and urban runoff. The runoff from the Commercial Core would be collected in a new collection and pretreatment system before being pumped into a series of infiltration basins in the upper watershed. The culvert system extends approximately 1,200 linear feet from the north end of Bijou Meadow to its outfall at the south shore of Lake Tahoe. The existing system consists of a combination of surface channel segments and buried storm drains/culverts. Bijou Creek flows into two 48-inch-diamter drainage pipes south of the intersection of Fairway Drive and Fairway Avenue, and then into a double-box concrete culvert along Fairway Drive. The system crosses under U.S. 50 in two 30-inch-diamter drainage pipes. North of the highway, flow is conveyed to Lake Tahoe in a 57-by-38-inch culvert. The proposed project would remove all of these existing components.
