Document Description
On April 19, 2011, there was a major break in a segment of Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Bear River Canal. Water supplies to the Placer County Water Agency and its customers remain severly limited due to the canal failure. Due to the loss of water supply, ordinary demands and requirements of PCWA's customers cannot be satisfied without depleting the water supply to the extent that there would be insufficient water for human consumption, sanitation and fire protection. In order to maintain a supply to our customers and water treatment plants, staff has a temporary solution to convey approximately 100 cfs of American River water pumped from the Ophir Pump Station into the existing transfer basin. Water will flow through an existing pipeline into a wetland adjacent to the South Canal. As the wetland fills with water, it will "back up" in the wetland behind an existing containment wall. As the water rises hehind the wall it will cascade over the wall to discharge into the South Canal.
