Document Description
Install a safety handrail along the eastern stairway at the Grand Entrance to Hearst Castle State Historic Monument to provide dual access to the north terrace from both the western and eastern stairways of the unfinished entrance and ensure visitor safety. Work will drill up to thirty holes with a maximum diameter of 2 inches and depth of 12 inches, to anchor in cement approximately 130 linear feet of pre-fabricated decorative steel hand rails and posts with a finish height of approximately 42 inches. Work will apply an evenly spaced, smooth, textured 1 ½ inch cement cap to the rough, unfinished concrete landing and steps on the eastern stairway. The finished work will match the existing hand rails and surface of the western stairway and is consistent with treatment of ancillary structures and contributing elements identified in the Olmsted Cultural Landscape Report.
