Document Description
On April 30 and May 6, 2011 approximately 5,000 people will take part in Friends of the Los Angeles River's 22nd Great Los Angeles River Clean-Up and the River School Day. Before the clean-up begins, a veteran site captain shall talk to the participants at each location covering environmental concers with emphasis on nesting bird issues. The clean-up is done entirely by hand. On an average year 20-25 tons of trash is removed from the river. The cleanup is accomplished with a close working relationship with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps. The annual project is specifically permitted by the LA county Department of Public Works and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. SAA #1600-2011-0116-R5
