- The general purpose of the acquisition, as stated by the Smith River Alliance, is to enhance recreation opportunities and to protect wild and scenic river parkway and habitat values along the South Fork of the Smith River. The acquisition will also provide for special education opportunities for youth and family camps offered at the Rock Creek Ranch. Public access to the waters of the South Fork will be preserved.
